about Heavenly Day

Heavenly Day by Patty Griffin was sung on August twenty-second, our wedding day, during our ceremony. As a gal from our church sang and my husband’s cousin played on the guitar I felt the heat of the sun peeking through the clouds above, I knew at that moment that my late father George E.R II was with me. I turned and looked at my future husband, then down at my locket which held a picture of my dad and the Mr. tied to my bouquet, I smiled.

There sat my family and my soon to be in-laws in their white chairs, all of my family that is divorced, separated, remarried, was there for us, I felt peace. It was one of the most amazing feelings I have ever experienced, this was the one time in my life that I was going to be able to spend an entire day with everyone that I love. The rain had gone away and the sun was shining through the distant clouds, the sun warmed my heart and brought tears to my eyes. After this day I was no longer going to be Miss. S. but I would be Mrs. M. At the moment I realized how precious it all was. The twenty-second was the beginning of the rest of my life with my best friend, celebrated with everyone that we love - our wedding day was truly a heavenly day.

Patty Griffin - Heavenly Day

Oh heavenly day, all the clouds blew away
Got no trouble today with anyone
The smile on your face I live only to see
It's enough for me, baby, it's enough for me
Oh, heavenly day, heavenly day, heavenly day

Tomorrow may rain with sorrow
Here's a little time we can borrow
Forget all our troubles in these moments so few
All we've got right now, the only thing that
All we really have to do

Is have ourselves a heavenly day
Lay here and watch the trees sway
Oh, can't see no other way, no way, no way
Heavenly day, heavenly day, heavenly day

No one at my shoulder bringing me fears
Got no clouds up above me bringing me tears
Got nothing to tell you, I've got nothing much to say
Only I'm glad to be here with you
On this heavenly, heavenly, heavenly, heavenly
Heavenly day, all the trouble's gone away
Oh, for a while anyway, for a while anyway
Heavenly day, heavenly day, heavenly day
